First Day of School

AUGUST 18, 2008

School is in full swing. Routines are in place (mostly). No one is complaining (much). Great teachers and a great school. Nola actually likes getting homework. Emerson complains, but he never has much homework, usually just math and reading. Emerson is required to read for 20 minutes everyday and Nola has to be read to for 15 min. So Emerson reads to Nola and we kill two birds with one stone. We have been reading the Magic Tree house series. We all enjoy reading/listening to those books. Last night we decided to read a Bible story and the kids were arguing over which one to read. Emerson wanted to read about Cain and Able and Nola wanted to read about Noah. We ended up reading about Noah, and Emerson would occasionally stop me to tell me how big the boat actually was and how old Noah was. They are learning some wonderful hymns in chapel and occasionally sing them for me at home. Nola has learned her address and can tell you the names of 3 different types of clouds. Emerson is studying Geology and Egypt this year. He is real excited about Egypt ever since we read a Magic Treehouse book on mummies. So it seems we are off to a good start. My first grade science class is going well, we just finished talking about the 5 senses and have started the human body talking about cells, then the nervous system. My preschool boys are learning to get along. Sometimes its hard for the older boys ( fall birthdays) to accept the younger boys (summer birthdays). The younger ones still want to knock everything down and don't have spatial sense. The older ones are very into imaginative play. We are all learning!
